GCSE Music


The GCSE music course develops skills in performance, composition, listening and appraising.

Performance – students are required to record one solo performance and one ensemble performance. Different instruments may be used for each performance, including the voice.

Composition – students may choose a brief and compose a piece of original music. A second composition brief is set by the exam board.

Listening and appraising – this will include a written exam and CD with music studied from a range of genres. These will include:

Baroque music

The Classical Concerto

Indian and Punjab

Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern music

Central and South America

African Drumming

Film Music

Pop music
