KS3 French Course Outline

During your three French lessons per week in Years 7, 8 and 9 you will study the four language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. All the skills are assessed throughout the year in both formal exams and in class activities. You will study three main topics a year as well as culturally relevant extras.

Year 7 Myself and My Family, Celebrations and Local Area and Environment.

Year 8 Hobbies, Lifestyle and Food and Drink. In addition in Year 8, all students will begin the AQA FCSE French qualification which is equivalent to roughly half a GCSE. This course is assessed throughout in Year 8 and Year 9 in both formal exams and in class activities. More information on the FCSE can be found at:

In Year 9, students study Holidays and Education and Future Plans for the FCSE and then
begin GCSE-level topics.

At John Ruskin School we subscribe to Linguascope, an interactive language learning tool which is used both in lessons and is available for revision and practice at home. The username and password are available from your teacher.
